Film Synopsis of “The American Society of Magical Negroes” → Aren (Justice Williams) is recruited into a secret society of Magical Black people who dedicate their lives to a cost of utmost importance!
Oh. Wow. Magical Negroes
I won’t even tell any lie to you all; when I first heard about this movie, I was taken completely off guard and by total surprise because of the “N” word in the title and never in my wildest dreams or imagination have I heard of a movie that had such a prejudice title. My immediate reaction is that this film will cause so much drama & conflict with African Americans and so much blame and controversy will begin that I don’t know how the motion picture world will move past this, but worse things have occurred. But the actual premise of the film was centered all around “magical negroes” whose goal was to make white people happy. How cruel is that to tell someone – even if it is in a comedy/satire type of film? Why not think of any other type of storyline or plot for a movie?
How To Deal with White Discomforts?
I think that this is a kind of touchy subject because as this film mainly deals with the race of two very specific backgrounds, I don’t want to write the incorrect things, and I consider everyone’s feelings. Generally speaking, people can hide their prejudices very well and someone would never even be able to tell that someone loathes a certain race, etc. It is true and it happens. To go a bit deeper, they can get close to someone to retaliate against someone to harm someone because they get a thrill out of it. There are millions of different likes and dislikes that ethnic backgrounds do not like about each other, but we have to find a way to find common ground amongst us all and not hate.
Lizzie & The Love Triangle of Magic
Lizzie had a magical chemistry with the two men in the crucial movie. One, with Aren, who was the magical negro that was assigned to her work husband, Jason. First, there is Aren. You know when you have that deep connection with someone even when it is not planned and it is forbidden, but you can’t help it from forming? Well, that is the connection that Lizzie and Aren had. Now, with Jason. She and he had the work vibe ON POINT, but Jason had a huge crush on Lizzie, but he was too shy to let her know of his true intentions and that is where Aren came into the picture and complicated things a bit not only for Jason but for himself as well because he fell for Lizzie as well. Aren’s job was to make life as easy and smooth as possible for Jason – do you think he succeeded by liking Lizzie?
The Magical Conclusions
I won’t say that I enjoyed the film, but I laughed at it. David Alan Grier and Justice Smith had on-screen chemistry and that was great to see! I did not like the premise of the film. I will never change my mind about that: making a black person’s mission in life to make a white person’s life easier so that they or the whole African American race does not get hurt or injured because if they are harmed or feel insecure, black people will get attacked or targeted. In closing, the movie may be funny to millions; insulting to millions more; disgusting to millions; just whatever, and blah to others; and all of those are fine.
